What was your experience being an intern at Orangeroc?

To have the opportunity to be an intern at OrangeRoc is a privilege. It was an absolute honor to be surrounded by such inspiring and creative people each day! Being a novice and very green to the industry, I think I had some kind of idea in my mind about what a design firm might be like. For some reason, I pictured a very stark, serious, and non-engaging atmosphere… I couldn't have been proven more wrong. Although the team is very serious about the work they do, the atmosphere is coupled with great enthusiasm, uplifting energy and exceptionally positive vibes. The team at OrangeRoc is most certainly unlike any other.

It was really interesting to be a shadow to everyone in the office. It's a huge learning experience to have the opportunity to look over shoulders and ask questions at will, to participate in current projects, and to be a part of discussions and critiques. The projects I was given throughout the internship were of great value to my education and have largely furthered my passion in design.

What were you able to accomplish during this internship? What did you learn?

Much of my time was spent learning how to design and create logos. I learned about the process of creating a logo and the proper steps taken in order to accomplish a strong piece of work. The process is really interesting to me and I enjoyed the challenges of each step in the development. I was unaware of the critical thinking that must go into creating a fresh idea that represents the client in a strong way, and therefore learned how to expand my mind in various directions.

Further, I learned how to visually communicate ideas, and gained further insight with each project accomplished. I learned about color theory, typography, corporate guidelines, time management, how to work as a team, gained extensive vocabulary and terminology of the industry, learned how to blog, gained knowledge of various keyboard shortcuts, how to work with positive and negative space, and how to select visually tasteful images, just to name a few!

All of these elements are accomplishments of mine during my time as an intern at OrangeRoc, and I couldn't be more grateful for my experience. A Big most sincere thank you to each of you at OrangeRoc. You will be missed!
